From the measurement desk

I think I know which of our locations is the weak one — am I probably right?

Probably not, and the reasons are structural: why owner intuition ranks locations by demand and personality, and what identical probes reveal.

Every group owner carries a private ranking of their locations, built from revenue reports, complaint memory, and manager personalities. It feels earned. On identical-probe scorecards, it's usually wrong in at least one important place — and the reasons it's wrong are worth more than the ranking.

Intuition ranks by demand, not handling

Your "strong" location is usually your strong TERRITORY — better demographics, an older patient base, a busier road. Revenue confirms the halo every month, while the desk inside it might be coasting on demand a weaker territory would expose. Meanwhile the "weak" location in the thin market may be running the best handling in the group and still trailing on revenue. Rankings built from outcomes can't separate the market from the desk; identical probes exist precisely to do that separation.

Intuition ranks by personality and complaints

The manager who communicates well earns a halo; the quiet one collects suspicion. Complaints skew the same way — they measure which customers complain, not which desks fail, and ghosted callers (the biggest failure class) never complain at all. In our measured work, the failures that mattered were silent: a third of threads losing their next step, invisible until someone counted. Charisma and complaint volume are real data about people. They're noise about handling.

What the identical probe reveals

Same inquiry, same script, same hours, every site: suddenly the ranking has one variable — what each desk did. Groups running this for the first time reliably find at least one surprise: the flagship that never returned the voicemail, the "problem" site that answered in ninety seconds and followed up twice. The surprise is the value: every management decision made under the old ranking was aimed at the wrong target.

Check yourself cheaply

The free score asks for your best-location and worst-location guesses — write them down. The $500 discovery then probes every site identically and hands you the measured ranking. Keep the guesses in the drawer for the reveal; most owners frame the comparison, because it's the last time they managed by anecdote.
